We made it to the top of Texas - Guadalupe Peak, 8,749'. Its a great hike, about 8.5 miles round trip and a gain of roughly 3,000 feet. The Guadalupe mountains stand isolated in the Chihuahuan desert making the view from the top stunning. I swear I could see all the way back to Bloomington. The trail is quite "manufactured." In some places it was litterally blasted out of cliffs. That kind of aggressive trail construction is looked down upon by some today, but clearly there would not be a way to get up there for normal folks if that work had not been done some seventy years ago.
